Organic Chemistry Laboratory

Fume hood

This lab course specialized in organic chemistry. It was part of my fourth semester courses and involved practicing standard procedures common to an organic chemistry research lab, such as recrystallization, phase separation and thin layer chromatography.

My experience with it was rather rewarding. For example, I extracted trimyristin from nutmeg via a simple extraction process followed by filtering, purification and recrystallization. The product looks very nice:

0.79g trimyristin

I unfortunately didn't get to synthesize aspirin, but I did get a chance to synthesize plenty more substances. Also, here's a picture of an interface between an organic and an aqueous phase:
